Many are called, but few are chosen

What does it mean that 'many are called, but few are chosen'?  As always, we need to read the Bible from the cultural perspective that it was written in. If we try to apply our modern definition of words and concepts to the Bible, we will loose the spirit of what is actually being said. Look here for more information.
